Cultural studies is a discipline that has many definitions and meanings. Cultural studies was originally founded in the 1950s by British academics who were interested in understanding how culture influences society. Today, it also encompasses how individuals understand themselves through culture, as well as analyses of popular media and other artefacts from daily life. It can be defined simply as “the study of people’s everyday lives.”
