About this course

Experience of impairment creates new opportunities for re-thinking and re-narrating what it is to be human.

A belief that the form of human difference that some choose to refer to as a disability provides a key to new transformational ways of understanding humanity and the nature of the good life. The University of Aberdeen’s postgraduate diploma (PgDip) in Theology and Disability is based on this assumption.

The PgDip Theology and Disability draws on the expertise of the Centre for Spirituality, Health, and Disability, as well as the Centre for the Study of Autism and Christian Community, to provide a comprehensive education.

Everyone who has an interest in exploring problems of disability and what it means to be human from a theological viewpoint is encouraged to participate in this programme. Despite the fact that Christianity is the main religious stance, students of all faiths and none are welcome.

It is an excellent CPD (Continuous Professional Development) opportunity for religious leaders, as well as professionals who work in faith communities and organisations, to attend. The PgDip, or individual courses, can be taken as continuing professional development (CPD) as part of occupational training, or merely for personal curiosity.

You can also enrol in this PgDip as a preparation for further postgraduate study, such as transferring into the University of Aberdeen’s Masters in Divinity programme.
